In May 2022, we teamed up with our valued client JLL to celebrate national bee day, whilst raising awareness of biodiversity at Gravelly Industrial Park, Birmingham.

JLL is a global real estate provider responsible for property management of commercial facilities across the UK.  Ground Control is contracted by JLL to maintain the outside spaces of a portfolio of JLL’s UK-based sites, of which Gravelly Park is one-of.

What makes this partnership successful is a mutual desire to bring humans and nature together to enrich staff wellbeing and the visitor experience in a way that’s future thinking and sustainable. This is why many JLL sites may have small meadows of wildflowers set amongst pristine grounds, with signs up to educate visitors on the important role of these meadows in attracting bees and other pollinators to enrich the ecosystem and create sustainable, biodiverse habitats for years to come.

World Bee Day was another great example of our shared commitment to biodiversity. Taking place annually in the spring, this is a global celebration of bees that ignites the opportunity to raise awareness of their vital role, alongside other pollinators, in keeping people and the planet healthy and the many challenges they face today.

JLL and Ground Control took this opportunity to host a day of wildflower seed scattering at Gravelly Park. Ground Control teams, JLL facilities managers, and users of the industrial site came together to scatter wildflower seeds to encourage bees to what will be a future wildflower meadow.

Ground Control Ecologist Alison Rogers and Site Manager Roy Candlin gave a biodiversity education session on site, to show the volunteers just how important biodiversity is, and how they can all play their part in encouraging a biodiversity net gain future.

I had a great day giving a talk on the importance of bees at a wildflower seeding event in partnership with our grounds maintenance team at Gravelly Park.
