On 28th July 2022 at Station Square, Cambridge, Ground Control partnered with JLL and local businesses Perception, Churchills, and Bee and Bird to celebrate and raise awareness of World Nature Conservation Day.

World Nature Conservation Day is an annual event that highlights the need to preserve a healthy environment and natural resources to maintain a stable and healthy society.  As a topic, conserving nature was discussed at Ground Control’s annual Green Gains Live Summit this July, with keynote speakers advocating the importance of rewilding.

This joint celebration in Cambridge explored opportunities for biodiversity net gain. As biodiversity experts, and leaders in sustainability, Ground Control delivered a workshop on how to build a bird and nesting box and provided all participants with the materials and tools to build RSBP-approved bird boxes to take home.

Churchill Group, a facility services organisation, supported the biodiversity and nature conservation pledge by providing bee sticks, which are match sticks containing bee-friendly seeds that people can plant in their gardens to create vital habitats for nature and provide a platform for biodiversity to flourish.

The event was also supported by Cambridgeshire-based bee farmers Bee and Bird, who provided a selection of honey from hives around Cambridge for the occupiers to taste and purchase, and local company Perception, who created posters and site information.

The day was then finished with a small group of occupiers getting the chance to see the hives in person.
