Introducing Declan O’Gorman
Ground Control recently announced Declan O’Gorman as the new Country Director for Ireland, with the clear intention of expanding existing operations in the markets in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
We asked Declan three questions to find out a little more about himself and the role.
First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself
Over the last 20 years, I have been working across the public and private sectors in property and facilities management, on the back of studying and living in Ireland. Throughout my career, I have built the performance of companies through sales and account management, before moving to senior management and strategic roles such as Head of Operations and Sales for FM at Compass Group, Director of Business Development at Bidvest Noonan, and General Manager at Ability Property Services.
In my personal life I love the outdoors and being in nature. I would love to continue this, and I aim to climb some of the world's highest mountains - next stop Kilimanjaro! It is this passion that has given me direction in my professional life to want to make a positive difference to the environment.”
What attracted you to Ground Control?
I was looking for an opportunity to combine my passion for the environment and my expertise. Ground Control wants to ‘leave the planet in a better place than they found it,’ and so do I. As someone with a passion for the environment and the outdoors, this role is a fantastic opportunity to support this, not just for Ground Control, but for Ireland’s net zero and biodiversity gain ambitions too.
What are your ambitions in the role, and what does success look like?
I would like to use my industry experience and knowledge of local markets to help Ground Control continue to positively impact the environment and biodiversity.
I want to do my part to help all of Ireland to reach its 2050 net zero target. There are some crucial milestones on the way, such as those for 2030, and I want to ensure Ground Control can extend and increase the support for companies and organisations based on the island, north and south, to achieve these targets and milestones. I can see the demonstrable benefits Ground Control already brings throughout the UK & NI and I look forward to building on this for the benefit of all Ireland.
Success in the role is showcasing and growing the work Ground Control already does across the island, and sharing the stories that work best for all our communities. There are several new services to offer to the market from Ground Control Energy Solutions through to plans for carbon net zero and biodiversity gain.
We thank Declan for taking the time to speak with us and look forward to sharing his future successes.
